Throwing a themed party, but don’t want to be overwhelmed by that very theme? Don’t worry, we’re here to help! This gorgeous baby shower, shot by Heather Rowland Photography and inspired by one of our favorite childhood books, is the perfect example of a themed party that isn’t over the top. Keep reading to see our tips and tricks for how you can do the same!
Decorations can be one of the biggest ways to get your theme across. This gathering took place in the home of Lauren Essl, the genius behind Blue Eye Brown Eye, who also provided the invites and calligraphy for this beautiful celebration. Lauren has a stunning home, so besides some marbled balloons, a copy of Where the Wild Things Are and lush floral arrangements, there was no extra decor needed. Oh Deery Floral provided white arrangments that go with anything and add to the elegance of the event.
PRO TIP: Decide on your decor last. Plan out your menu and your activities, and see if those areas are where your theme will shine. However, be careful not to wait too long to order any decorations you may need.
If your theme is based on a book, we love the idea of having a copy of that book for people to sign. It doesn’t matter if it’s a birthday, baby shower, or engagement party, a guest book is a perfect keepsake for any occasion!
For this celebration, the desserts were crowned as the primary way to show off the theme. Adorable crown cookies paired with a stunning crown-topped cake made it clear what book this party was inspired by.
PRO TIP: Food is one of the most fun ways to show off your theme. Cookies are a good option and depending on what the theme is, can be made and decorated yourself! You should also consider ordering a specialty cake. Many talented bakeries love to create something unique that goes along with a theme – plus a killer cake is always a crowd favorite.
If you decide to keep food and decor neutral, your activities can be the perfect way to show off your theme. The mama-to-be had all her guests wear golden paper crowns and channel their inner Queen of the Wild Things. 👸🏻 Partygoers also decorated ABC blocks for the little babe, which was one of our favorite personal touches from the celebration.
PRO TIP: Apparel or accessories (hats, necklaces, pins/badges) are an easy way to get guests infused into your theme.
While we love the subtle nods to the classic book, Where the Wild Things Are, there are other party themes that sometimes you just need to go all out on.
